Inquiry 4: A Practice Pause

Practice Pause… Hotel California

I went home for a quick trip and my siblings and I love to play music together! My brother and sister play the guitar, my sister also sings, and I play the piano (and try to sing). A song that my brother has been trying to play is Hotel California by the Eagles, it has a cool guitar theme to it and he is getting quite good! So we decided to create a little impromptu band, my sister on vocals, my brother guitar, and me piano (I was just playing the guitar chords and adding in some flourishes while singing a little myself). My dad recorded the video that you can access at this link, or in the video below, please enjoy!

If you wanted to follow along to the music above with the chords and lyrics music I was using I have included the link to that as well.

Practice Update

As for an update on my progress on Moonlight Sonata and City of Stars, they are still coming along. I thought that my rate of improvement would be more obvious throughout this project but it is still slow going. I have been practicing each song around 10 minutes a day, but I think that my head is not always in it with everything else going on for school; I would say that these past few weeks I have felt more distracted and less excited to sit down at the piano. I also think that choosing to perfect Moonlight Sonata was ambitious and I misjudged the level of difficulty of the music due to the simplistic beauty of the piece when played professionally. I think that adjusting my goal to practice only the first ‘part’ of the song which includes the whole first page as well a few bars into the second page is much more realistic.

City of Stars I still love practicing, I am getting better and quicker while putting my right hand and left hand together, I am excited to share my progress next week! I think that I will start using YouTube as a method to share the longer videos because I cannot upload long videos to this blog very efficiently.
